HOW TO
HEAR
THROUGH
YOUR TEETH
You just need
a radio, earplugs,
and a toothbrush.
Make sure your radio has just one speaker, not two.
This will make it easier for your teeth to “hear” all the sounds.
Edison did it. So can you.
1. Turn on the radio.
2. Put the earplugs into your ears.
Can you hear the radio? If not, good!
4. Touch the other end of the
toothbrush to the radio’s speaker.
3. Place the
toothbrush
into your
mouth.
OR, try it another way. . .
5. Now listen! Your teeth connect to your jaw. Your jaw connects
to your ear bones. You can hear the radio through your teeth.
Use:
• an old record you don’t mind scratching up
• a pencil
• a rubber band
• a skewer
• tape
• a pin
Put the pencil into the hole of the record. Twist a rubber band onto
the underside of the pencil to hold it in place. Tape the pin to the
end of the skewer. The grooves on the record match the sound
waves your ear (or teeth!) will pick up. Stick one end of the skewer
into your mouth, and set the other in a groove on the record.
Spin the record. Try it fast. Try it slow. Listen with your teeth!
If you do try this at home, take a short video of your experiment
and send it to us at .
